No Phone Zone
Recently I was told about a new pledge that talk show host Oprah Winfrey has created. It’s called the No Phone Zone Pledge, and it’s purpose is to have you promise that you will not use your phone while you are operating your vehicle because you are aware of the distraction it creates and the possible problems that may arise. I am totally in support of this pledge and I believe that everybody should sign it, because I lost a friend due to the carelessness of a driver who was texting behind the wheel. The car is not a safe place for you to use your phone, period, whether you are texting or talking! Besides, cell phones were not created to be a distraction. The safest thing you can do if you are driving is to turn off your cell phone before you get in the car. You can turn it on again when you get to your destination.
Oprah’s pledge asks you to promise one of the following:
- I will not text while I am driving.
- I will not text while driving and will use only handsfree calling if I need to speak on the phone while I am driving.
- I will not text or use my phone while I am driving. If I need to use my phone, I will pull over to a secure location.
So, I ask all of you to join me in signing Oprah’s No Phone Zone Pledge. Right now there are 311,515 pledge submissions and the number keeps rising. If you are ready to make a commitment to make your car a No Phone Zone and do your part to help put an end to distracted driving by driving responsibly, visit the No Phone Zone website
