Introducing Katie

KaitieHi, my name is Katie. I’m the new college intern here at the Center for Young Women’s Health. I’m a senior majoring in psychology and will be working at the CYWH throughout the semester. My background in psychology has taught me a lot, but I hope to return to school and earn a degree in Nursing after I graduate. In my spare time I love to do lots of different activities. Some of my favorites include running, yoga, pilates, hanging out with my friends, watching movies, and cooking. I’m a very outgoing and social person and love trying new things!

In 2008 I was a volunteer here at Children’s Hospital Boston and worked on 10 South, a transplant and multi-visceral unit. I loved working here and knew I wanted to work here again – both during and after I finished college. I was familiar with the Center for Young Women’s Health and sought out an internship where I could help young women. I’m especially interested in helping girls and young women manage symptoms associated with endometriosis.

Over the course of the semester I know I will be challenged by the various projects I’m faced with and know that this internship will be one of the greatest learning experiences I will ever have. I hope that I’m able to teach young women that living with endometriosis is not a burden, but that it’s something to embrace. I’ve never really talked about having endometriosis because I felt as if I was the only one with it. I believe that talking to and supporting others and sharing various experiences will be very therapeutic. I’m looking forward to the Endometriosis Conference for Teens and their Families that the CYWH is sponsoring on Saturday, March 24th. I will be co-facilitating a teen support group for girls diagnosed with endo.

Although I’ve just started at the Center for Young Women’s Health, I already feel extremely comfortable and believe that I will make a difference here. I have been blessed with an amazing opportunity and I cannot wait to see what lies ahead. Carpe Diem!
