Introducing Jessica
Hi! My name is Jessica and I’m one of the new youth advisors here at the Center for Young Women’s Health. I’m currently a senior at Boston Latin School, which is about a block away from Boston Children’s Hospital. I’m always willing to make a new friend, so don’t ever be afraid to stop by the Children’s Hospital Resource Center to visit! The Resource Center is located at 333 Longwood Ave., on the 5th floor.
I enjoy reading, writing, running, taking walks with my dog, and staying active. I have been boxing for 10 months and plan to continue in college. At school, I am the co-president of the spoken word club, which is performance-based slam poetry. I love performing my original writing in front of people, and I like to spend time on YouTube watching other spoken word artists speak.
Over the past two summers, I worked at Tufts Medical Center under the Teachers and High School Students Program (TAHSS) and during my time there, I worked with a family doctor. I visited his clinic in Arlington twice a week for eight weeks; on other days, I attended lectures given by medical students in the downtown/Chinatown campus. Some of the lectures were about human anatomy and physiology; as part of the program, I was able to go into the medical school’s cadaver lab and actually touch and see real body parts. It was an enriching experience, and my involvement with a family doctor truly influenced my decision to want to go into medicine when I graduate from college.
I’m happy to be working at Boston Children’s Hospital; the Center for Young Women’s Health is very focused on helping youth become more aware of their well-being; I think it is so important to have access to reliable resources that educate about our bodies, and the Center provides that. I am very enthusiastic about this position, and can’t wait to get more involved!
