PCOS and The Super Bowl
Many of our eating habits are influenced by cultural and social norms. Super Bowl Sunday is no exception. According to the 2014 Nielsen report, the day is not just about football. In fact, the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) says, “Super Bowl Sunday is all about food consumption, and the second highest day for eating, second only to Thanksgiving.” Snacks are a huge part of the day. Salty chips, dips, pizza, Buffalo wings, cheese and crackers are among the most popular foods that fans will eat. Nine out of ten viewers will watch the game at home and prepare recipes that are notoriously high in fat and calories. But approximately 48 million Americans will order takeout or delivery food. Domino’s pizza alone will deliver 11 million pizzas on game day.
So what does this mean if you have PCOS? I’m sure you realize that most of the customary Super Bowl snack options are not exactly “PCOS-friendly” but they can be! In her blog, Dietitian Katrina explains how to choose healthy options at the party buffet and how to make traditional snacks healthier. Check it out!
