Planning for the Next Nine Months

Handsome high school student

As summer comes to a close we are quickly approaching the days when we will be waking up to an alarm again. That’s right it’s that time of year. Back to school we go!
You may begin with going to the mall to buy a new outfit followed by picking up all the necessary materials to get you ready for your first day back. You think once you have all the “materials”, you’re ready for the school year. But wait-you’re forgetting a couple of things. Going back to school is more than just getting a new clothes, notebooks and pencils. It’s about preparing for the next 9 months.

One of the most important things that you should think about is time management. This is a big one that many people don’t take too seriously but the truth is it’s the key to your success. Make sure you have your priorities straight! This is especially important for those of you who are involved in sports and other after school activities. It is possible to balance it all if you just set up a daily schedule for yourself that you are sure to follow.

Another thing to think about is keeping organized. This goes hand in hand with time management. Being organized can help to improve your grades as well as your overall approach to school. If everything is in its place it makes it easier to keep up and be able to get everything done on time.

Getting enough sleep is also something that can be very challenging to accomplish. The reality is by not getting the recommended number of hours of sleep, you will likely not be as productive during the hours that you are awake. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, adolescents should get 8.5-9.5 hours of sleep every night. If you work on your time management skills, you will be able to find the time to get your Z’s!

Back to school is coming whether we want it to or not so we might as well make the best of it. We will come to appreciate our education later on in life so for now let’s try to stay as organized as possible! Good luck this year!
