Changing Your Mindset on Change
Change has always been scary for me, especially when the change involves meeting new people. I find it daunting because I can never tell how others will react to my character and personality, and I never know how I will react to them. Will I trust them? Will I become close friends with them? I find that all this uncertainty can be overwhelming.
Now you can imagine my fear with starting college. Being in a new place with new people. Having to share a room with someone I don’t know. It is especially scary because I know that I am the type of person who enjoys her own privacy, yet having a roommate does not leave a lot of room for that.
Although I am scared of starting college and making big changes in my lifestyle, at the same time, I am excited to get to know new people, and step out of my comfort zone. I am excited to develop new relationships with the people around me, and to get to know them on a more personal and deeper level. Although change can be scary it can also be educational and help one grow. For me, there is no better way to learn than through doing. I want to experience college to the fullest, even if that means giving up some privacy.
I will definitely miss having my own room, and I will miss being around the people I have been around for the past 6 years. I will also miss being able to see my best friends on a daily basis. I am happy and thankful for the memories and experience of high school and if there is one thing in life that is certain, it’s “everything comes to an end,” so the quicker I adapt to change, the better.
