Self-Care During the School Year
Finding a balance between taking care of yourself and taking care of your grades is difficult during any school year; especially this year, with many of us being virtual or returning to school in person for the first time in many months.
This past school year, I really struggled to draw a line between my personal space and my working space. Because I was in my room all day, I would often do my work on my bed instead of at my desk, or on the yoga mat that I resigned to my floor for weeks after a failed attempt at getting into yoga. This caused me to blur the lines between school and relaxation, and I became very stressed. So, I created a clear division between the spaces. One space I use to relax, while the other I use to be productive. I also began to invest in taking care of myself and making sure I had time to do relaxing things!
Here are some things I do that you can do during the school year to relax and take care of yourself:
- Take a bath
- Go for a walk
- Read a book for pleasure
- Re-watch a comfort Netflix show
- Create a nighttime routine to signal to your body that it’s time to go to bed
- Meditate
At the end of the day, make sure to schedule in time to take care of yourself! Your body and mind are just as important, if not more so, than any grades and work will ever be.
