Introducing Amanda
Hello everyone! My name is Amanda and I am 17 years old. I am a rising senior and my favorite classes are biology and chemistry; I love science and being able to explore the world and how it works! I am one of the captains of my school’s Mock Trial team, a head for our first-generation-American affinity group, and a founder of our Healthcare Club. I have always loved science and considered a career pursuing that interest, and as I got older, I realized how interested I am in learning about the human body and helping others. Specifically, as I learned about inequities in sexual education and access to reproductive healthcare, my interests narrowed into being interested in public health and gynecology and I now hope to pursue a career as a gynecologist.
I decided to become a peer leader because I believe that giving people–teenagers, especially–access to tools to better understand their healthcare and advocate for themselves is so important! As someone who hopes to become a doctor someday, I believe that listening to the patients and giving them an environment where they feel supported is essential to providing the best care possible, especially when that comes to their reproductive health. I am so excited for the future; I cannot wait to work with the residents and write blogs here for all of you!
Thank you for reading!
