Do Ask, Do Tell!

Don't Ask, Don't TellHey guys, I just read an article about the senate’s repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”, the policy that put a restriction on gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military. “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was unnecessary. Someone’s sexuality should not have anything to do with their job, especially if they are willing to risk their life for their country. Plus, the policy was a violation of the first and fifth amendments.

Unfortunately, Senator John McCain felt that the repeal is going to do great damage, and said that the vote was a sad day in history. I don’t agree with his opinion. Committing yourself to the military takes a lot of courage and patriotism. If someone is willing to do this, they shouldn’t have to worry about their sexuality. Whether a person is attracted to men or women shouldn’t determine their ability to fight, or their amount of love for their country. I think that the senate’s repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was a positive decision and it is a step in the right direction for America.
